Should you buy the TCL X955?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the TCL X955: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Is it really 240 Hz?
The panel is 144 Hz. TCL reaches 240 Hz with DLG, which halves the vertical resolution to double the rate, so the picture at 240 Hz is not the picture at 144. Kacbu files 144 as the refresh rate and 240 separately, with the technique named.
What is a 4.2.2 array?
Four main and surround channels, two subwoofers and two height channels: TCL writes it out as 2 x 10 W up-firing, 2 x 10 W surround, 2 x 10 W main and 2 x 10 W subwoofer, 80 W in total. The height pair is what Dolby Atmos encodes and what most televisions leave to a soundbar.
5000 nits — is that the whole screen?
No. TCL states 720 nits typical and 5000 nits peak, and a peak figure is a small highlight for a short moment, not a full-screen brightness. Both numbers are TCL's own and both are on this page, kept apart.
