CONSIDER
  • Current model β€” 8 months on the market
  • No real owner data yet β€” the verdict stays cautious
Great choice if these matter:
  • bright rooms
  • console gaming
  • film nights
Watch out for:
  • The 288 Hz figure is DLG, which halves the vertical resolution to double the rate
  • The page headline claims 6,000 nits where the specification sheet under it states 5,000

FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Should you buy the TCL C8L?
The Kacbu decision box currently says CONSIDER for the TCL C8L: the specs hold up, but there are not yet enough real owner reports to strengthen the call. Pros, cautions and alternatives are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Is the C8L really a 288 Hz television?
The panel runs at 144 Hz. TCL states 288 Hz through DLG, a mode that halves the vertical resolution to double the rate, and Kacbu records it as the marketing figure rather than as the panel's own. Variable refresh runs from 48 Hz.
What backlight does it use?
TCL titles the page an SQD-Mini LED television in all five markets, and that is what this page records. Its specification sheet is quieter: the technology row reads 4K UHD, the panel is named CSOT WHVA 2.0, and no dimming-zone count is published anywhere.
How is it different from the C8K it replaces?
The C8K's own sheet states QD-Mini LED, a VA panel and 4,500 nits peak with 97% of DCI-P3. The C8L claims 5,000 nits and 100% of BT.2020 on a CSOT WHVA 2.0 panel, and adds Dolby Vision IQ.
