Should you buy the TCL C745?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the TCL C745: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Which HDMI input is the fast one?
HDMI 1. TCL states it plainly: HDMI 1 runs 4K at 144 Hz, HDMI 2 at 120 Hz, and HDMI 3 and 4 at 60 Hz. All four are HDMI 2.1 with eARC and ALLM, but only the first reaches the panel's ceiling — put the PC there.
Is 120 dimming zones enough?
It is what TCL states, and it is modest: the C855 of 2024 states 1,344. What the C745 buys at its price is the 144 Hz panel and the format list, not the backlight control.
1,000 nits or 550?
Both, on two rows. TCL states 1,000 cd/m² as the peak and 550 cd/m² typical on full white. The peak is what a small highlight reaches; the typical is the whole screen.
