Should you buy the TCL C735?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the TCL C735: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
How big is 98 inches really?
About two and a half metres across the diagonal. TCL states the set without its stand at 98 inches of screen, and at that size the seating distance matters more than the specification: too close and 4K starts to show its pixels, too far and the size is wasted.
What does the Onkyo array give?
TCL states the speaker type as Onkyo, the power as 50 W and the layout as 2.1 — two channels and a woofer. Dolby Atmos and DTS are both decoded, but there is no height channel, so Atmos here is a decode rather than a placement.
Is the dimming local or micro?
Both, and TCL answers yes to each on separate rows. Micro dimming works on the image; local dimming switches groups of backlight LEDs. This page keeps them apart, as it does across the category, because only one of them is about the backlight.
