Should you buy the LG QNED8FA?
The Kacbu decision box currently says CONSIDER for the LG QNED8FA: the specs hold up, but there are not yet enough real owner reports to strengthen the call. Pros, cautions and alternatives are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Why does this page carry no dimensions?
Because LG does not publish them. The German page is the only one this television has, and it prints the panel, the ports, the sound and the platform without a width, a height, a depth or a weight. The catalogue leaves those empty rather than borrowing a sibling's figures.
Edge lit at this level — what does that mean?
LG states the backlight as edge lit, which puts the lamps along the border of the panel and lights the middle through a diffuser, rather than the Mini LED array it gives the QNED85A and above. It still states local dimming, so the light is controlled in zones, but not by a grid behind the picture.
Is it a gaming television?
For a 50-inch set, unusually so: LG states 120 Hz, four HDMI inputs, 4K 120 Hz as the accepted signal, variable refresh, ALLM, FreeSync, HGiG and the Game Optimizer. What it does not state is Dolby Vision for gaming or a 144 Hz ceiling.
