What does Qualcomm say about the product?

A summary of Qualcomm's official product description.

Official Qualcomm source

Qualcomm introduced the 6s Gen 3 as accessible 5G silicon for entry phones.

Announced on June 8, 2024, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 Mobile Platform is a 6nm part with two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.3 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz and Adreno 619 graphics. Qualcomm has since acknowledged publicly that it is an enhanced version of the Snapdragon 695 rather than a clean-sheet design.

Editorial Analysis

Strengths and points to consider

Compiled by the Kacbu editorial team from spec sheets, independent press reviews and reported user feedback.

Strengths based on the specs
Brings 5G to phones at the cheapest end of the market.
Two Cortex-A78 performance cores handle everyday apps and video without stutter.
6nm manufacturing draws little power, which is why phones on it ship with very large batteries.
A mature, widely deployed platform, so software and driver support are well settled.
Things to consider
Qualcomm has publicly described it as an enhanced Snapdragon 695 β€” a platform from 2021 β€” rather than a new design.
Adreno 619 graphics date from the same era; demanding 3D games are out of reach.
Around 460k on AnTuTu in GSMArena's Redmi 15 testing, the bottom tier of current phones.
Qualcomm publishes no cache sizes or TDP figure.

Official launch details

Instead of tracking today's retail price, Kacbu keeps the product's official launch information as a reference.

AnnouncedJune 8, 2024

The manufacturer's official announcement date.

Qualcomm is headquartered in the US and designs the chip there; it does not fabricate it itself. Which foundry produces the 6nm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is not stated in public sources, so no manufacturing country is claimed here.

This is not the current retail price β€” it shows the product's historical, official launch information.

FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Should you buy the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3?
The Kacbu decision box currently says CONSIDER for the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3: the specs hold up, but there are not yet enough real owner reports to strengthen the call. Pros, cautions and alternatives are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Why does a 2024 chip use 2021 hardware?
The 6s line is Qualcomm's cost-reduced tier, where an existing design is refreshed rather than replaced. It keeps the price of 5G phones down. What it means for a buyer is that performance should be judged against the Snapdragon 695, not against other 2024 chips.
Is it fast enough?
For calls, messaging, maps, video and social apps, yes. For demanding games, heavy photo editing or keeping many apps open, no β€” a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or Dimensity 7400 Ultra phone is a clear step up for modest extra money.
Which phones use it?
Every phone in this catalogue carrying it is listed on this page, so you can compare them directly.
