Official Statement

What does Apple say about the product?

A summary of Apple's official product description.

Official Apple source

Apple introduced the A18 as the chip that brings Apple Intelligence to the standard iPhone.

Announced on September 9, 2024 alongside the iPhone 16, the A18 is built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm N3E process with a six-core CPU, a five-core GPU with hardware ray tracing and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple cites a 40% faster GPU than the A16 at 35% lower power, and CPU cores that are faster while using 30% less power.

FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Should you buy the Apple A18?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the Apple A18: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
A18 or A18 Pro β€” what is the difference?
The Pro variant that shipped in the iPhone 16 Pro adds a sixth GPU core and more memory bandwidth. In everyday use the gap is small; it shows up in sustained gaming and video work.
How does it compare with the A19?
The A19 in the iPhone 17 line is a generation newer on TSMC's N3P process. The A18 remains fast enough for everything current iOS asks of it, and iPhones carrying it now sell at lower prices.
Which phones use it?
Every phone in this catalogue carrying it is listed on this page, so you can compare them directly.
