Apple built the iPhone 16 around Apple Intelligence, the A18 and the new Camera Control.

In its September 9, 2024 press release Apple introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus with the A18 chip, a 48MP Fusion camera with a 2x telephoto option, the Action button and the new Camera Control, positioning both as designed for Apple Intelligence. US pricing started at $799, with availability from September 20, 2024.

Should you buy the iPhone 16?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the iPhone 16: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
Is the iPhone 16 still worth buying at its reduced price?
Its case rests on the camera: it is the cheapest current iPhone with a real ultra wide lens and Camera Control. Against the same-priced 17e you trade the newer chip and bigger battery for that flexibility and faster MagSafe. Against the 17 you save money and give up 120Hz and double the storage.
How long will it get iOS updates?
It launched with iOS 18 and runs iOS 26 today. Apple does not publish a fixed policy, but its recent record puts standard iPhones at five or more major versions, which projects support toward the end of the decade.
What does the 60Hz screen mean day to day?
Scrolling and animations are visibly less fluid than on a ProMotion iPhone, and there is no Always-On display. Brightness, color and sharpness are otherwise excellent. It is the one spec where the phone shows its generation.
iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus?
Identical internals; the Plus buys a 6.7-inch display and a much larger battery — rated 27 hours of video against 22 — at the cost of size and 29 extra grams. Pick by hand size and how much you value screen area.
