Sony BRAVIA 8A
WAIT
  • 32 months on the market β€” a successor may be near
  • No real owner data yet β€” the verdict stays cautious
Great choice if these matter:
  • film nights
  • dark rooms
  • console gaming
Watch out for:
  • Wi-Fi 6 rather than the Wi-Fi 6E of the newer sets
  • Variable refresh on HDMI 3 and 4 only, and HDMI 3 carries eARC

Main risks
  • A successor may be near β€” 32 months since release
  • Wi-Fi 6 rather than the Wi-Fi 6E of the newer sets
  • Variable refresh on HDMI 3 and 4 only, and HDMI 3 carries eARC
  • A 120 Hz panel, where LG's OLEDs accept 165 Hz

FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Should you buy the Sony BRAVIA 8A?
The Kacbu decision box currently says WAIT for the Sony BRAVIA 8A: either the model has been on the market long enough that a successor may be near, or owner data is weak. The reasons are in the decision box at the top of this page.
How is it different from the BRAVIA 8 II?
The 8 II is the newer OLED, with Acoustic Surface Audio+ β€” the screen as the speaker β€” and Wi-Fi 6E, in 55 and 65 inches only. The 8A adds a 77-inch size and carries a conventional 50 W speaker set.
Which HDMI input should a console use?
The third or the fourth. Sony states variable refresh for those two, and the third is also the eARC input, so a soundbar takes the third and a console the fourth.
Is 120 Hz enough?
For a console, yes β€” a PS5 or Xbox outputs at most 4K 120 Hz, and Sony states 4K 120 with ALLM and VRR on the inputs that carry it. The 165 Hz of an LG OLED is a PC figure.
