CONSIDER
    Great choice if these matter:
    • Gaming
    • Content Creation
    • Work / Productivity
    Watch out for:
    • 160W maximum turbo power means real performance depends entirely on the laptop's cooling — two machines with this chip can behave very differently.
    • No Hyper-Threading: 24 threads from 24 cores, against 32 threads on the previous generation's i9-14900HX.

    • NPU is limited compared to the Core Ultra 200V and Ryzen AI parts, so it misses the Copilot+ AI threshold.
    • Soldered BGA package: not upgradable, and its power draw hurts battery life away from the wall.

    Editorial Analysis

    Strengths and points to consider

The Kacbu editors' assessment of the specifications the maker publishes. We do not test devices ourselves, so nothing here is a measured result. Anything taken from an independent review is shown with its publication and date in the Press section.

    Strengths based on the specs
24 cores (8 performance + 16 efficiency) is desktop core count in a laptop package.
5.4 GHz maximum turbo is the highest clock in any mobile chip of its generation.
36 MB of L3 cache and DDR5-6400 support keep heavy multi-threaded work fed.
Built on a 3nm process, a full node ahead of the Raptor Lake HX chips it replaces.
PCIe 5.0 lanes allow full-speed discrete graphics and Gen5 storage in the same machine.
    Things to consider
160W maximum turbo power means real performance depends entirely on the laptop's cooling — two machines with this chip can behave very differently.
No Hyper-Threading: 24 threads from 24 cores, against 32 threads on the previous generation's i9-14900HX.
NPU is limited compared to the Core Ultra 200V and Ryzen AI parts, so it misses the Copilot+ AI threshold.
Soldered BGA package: not upgradable, and its power draw hurts battery life away from the wall.

    FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Why do two laptops with this same chip perform differently?
Because the 55W base and 160W turbo figures are a range, not a promise. A thick gaming chassis with a vapour chamber can hold high power for minutes; a thin one throttles back within seconds. On laptops, the cooling system is part of the processor's real specification — which is why we record each laptop's actual power limits alongside the chip.
    Is losing Hyper-Threading a problem?
Rarely in practice. Intel's own data showed the new performance cores gain more from single-thread speed than from a second thread, and the 16 efficiency cores handle the parallel work. Total thread count dropped from 32 to 24, but per-core performance rose enough that most workloads come out ahead.
Is it a Copilot+ AI PC chip?
No. Its NPU falls short of the 40 TOPS Microsoft requires for Copilot+ features. If on-device AI matters to you, the Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel's own Core Ultra 200V line are the chips built for that; the 275HX is built for raw CPU and GPU throughput instead.
