What is it?

What is 2 MP macro and what does it do?

This is not the main sensor that records the photo: it does not image the frame directly but takes a supporting measurement for the main camera, and the result is used while the main frame is processed.

2 MP macro describes a low-resolution dedicated lens for close-ups: it can focus from a few centimetres and brings small subjects up large in the frame. Because its resolution is low it does its best work in generous daylight; in the dark the main camera's own close-up is often better.
