What is it?

What is Gimbal OIS (CIPA 7.0) and what does it do?

Gimbal OIS is the wider-angle form of stabilization: where classic OIS shifts the lens in small steps on two axes, a gimbal mechanism tilts the whole module like a gyroscope ring and counters movement across a far larger angular range. The name comes from the mechanical gimbals used in filming.

In practice the difference shows in video shot while walking and in long-exposure night photos: a wider range of shake is absorbed, so the frame drifts less. The cost is a thicker module, which is why it is usually fitted to the main camera alone.

CIPA 7.0 is an independent standard for the strength of stabilization: the CIPA association of camera makers determines, on a vibration bench, how many "stops" a system buys. 7.0 stops means a scene that would need 1/60 s without stabilization can be held by hand out to roughly 1 second — a defined measurement rather than a maker's own claim.

The name by itself states no sensor size, no aperture and no focal length — those figures live on the model's own spec sheet. A partnership is a claim of pedigree, not a measurable specification.
