Phones with Dolby Vision HDR

HDR (high dynamic range) video records bright and dark regions across a far wider range than ordinary video: light through a window does not blow out, a face in shadow is not crushed. On a compatible screen the image plays at the brightness the recording intended.

Dolby Vision is Dolby's HDR (high dynamic range) video format. What separates it from ordinary video is dynamic metadata — brightness and colour information carried per scene, even per frame — so a compatible screen shows the image with the balance the recording intended.

A phone recording in this format writes the video with a wide brightness range and that metadata at capture time. On compatible screens the result plays with brighter highlights, deeper shadows and truer colour; screens without support simply play the standard version.
