Official Statement

What does NVIDIA say about the product?

A summary of NVIDIA's official product description.

Official NVIDIA source

NVIDIA positions the RTX 5090 as the fastest GeForce card it has ever built, aimed at gamers and creators alike.

Announced at CES on January 6, 2025 and released on January 30, the RTX 5090 is built on the Blackwell architecture with 32 GB of GDDR7 memory. NVIDIA frames it around three uses at once: full ray-traced gaming at the lowest latency, demanding creative workloads, and running AI models locally, with DLSS 4 neural rendering used to raise frame rates and cut latency.

Editorial Analysis

Strengths and points to consider

Compiled by the Kacbu editorial team from spec sheets, independent press reviews and reported user feedback.

Strengths based on the specs
21,760 CUDA cores β€” roughly double the RTX 5080's shader count.
32 GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus, giving 1792 GB/s of bandwidth.
The memory capacity handles local AI models and 8K video timelines the 16 GB cards cannot.
170 fourth-generation RT cores for full path-traced rendering.
680 fifth-generation Tensor cores driving DLSS 4 multi frame generation.
DisplayPort 2.1b supports very high refresh rates at 4K.
Founders Edition fits a 2-slot enclosure despite the 575W board power.
Things to consider
575 W board power β€” the highest of any consumer GeForce card.
A 1000 W power supply is the recommended minimum.
$1,999 MSRP, and street prices ran well above it after launch.
The 12V-2x6 connector requires care in seating and cable routing.
Real-world gains over the RTX 5080 rarely match the doubled core count.
304 mm length rules out many compact cases.

FAQ

The most common questions about this product

What the numbers on the spec sheet actually mean in day-to-day use.

Should you buy the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090?
The Kacbu decision box currently says CONSIDER for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090: the specs hold up, but there are not yet enough real owner reports to strengthen the call. Pros, cautions and alternatives are in the decision box at the top of this page.
How much faster is it than the RTX 5080?
On paper it has roughly twice the cores, twice the memory and twice the bandwidth. In games the gap is far smaller than that β€” most titles are limited by other parts of the pipeline long before the shader count matters. The doubling shows up properly in memory-bound work: local AI models, 8K timelines and heavy 3D scenes.
Do I really need a 1000 W power supply?
That is NVIDIA's recommendation for a complete system, not the card alone. The card itself draws up to 575 W, and transient spikes go higher, so a quality 1000 W unit leaves headroom. Pairing it with a high-draw CPU on a smaller supply is where people run into shutdowns under load.
What is the 32 GB of memory actually for?
Games rarely need it today. It matters when the working set has to fit in VRAM at once: running larger language or image models locally, 8K video editing, and large 3D scenes with high-resolution textures. If none of that describes your work, the memory is not the reason to buy this card.
Will it fit in my case?
The Founders Edition is 304 mm long and two slots wide, which suits most mid-tower cases. Partner cards are frequently longer and three or more slots thick, so check the specific model against your case clearance rather than assuming the reference dimensions.
Is the 12V-2x6 connector safe?
It is the revised version of the connector, designed so that a partly seated plug will not carry full current. The practical advice is unchanged: push it in until it clicks, and avoid tight bends immediately behind the plug. At 575 W there is little margin for a poor connection.
